हमारी आवश्यकता
आज हमको एक घटना सुनने को मिली कि किसी साधक ने किसी साधिका से माताजी कह दिया तो वह नाराज हो गई - "तुमने मुझे माताजी क्यों कह दिया, नाम क्यों नहीं लिया ।" मैं आपसे निवेदन करता हूँ हमने अपने बचपन में धर्मात्माओं से सुना था कि अपने बराबरवाली माँ हो सकती है, बड़ी माँ हो सकती है, छोटी बहन हो सकती है । तो हमें तो बगैर पढ़े-लिखों की बात मालूम थी कि अपरचित स्त्रियों के साथ इसी भावना से व्यहार किया जा सकता है ।
ऐसे ही एक साधक को किसी ने नौकर कह दिया, जैसा मैंने सुना । मैं आपसे यह निवेदन करना चाहता हूँ कि जो यह समझते हैं कि साधक एक नौकर है, उनकी बड़ी भारी भूल है। मानव-सेवा-संघ के अनुसार मानव-सेवा-संघ साधकों का संघ है। साधक यहाँ का मालिक है चाहे एक दिन के लिए आया हो, चाहे हजार दिन के लिए आया हो, चाहे वर्षों से काम करता हो, चाहे आज काम आरम्भ किया हो ।
साधक माने मानव-सेवा-संघ का मालिक क्योंकि यह साधकों का संघ है, किसी व्यक्ति का तो है नहीं । तो साधक को नौकर कहने से, हमने सुना कि उस साधक को बड़ा कष्ट हो गया। उनको 'माताजी' सुनने से कष्ट हो गया और इन्हें 'नौकर' सुनने से कष्ट हो गया । मैं आपसे यह निवेदन करना चाहता हूँ कि इस कष्ट का कारण क्या है ? देहाभिमान के सिवाय कोई और कारण है क्या ?

Our urgent need

Today I happened to hear of an incident with a woman aspirant who was angered at being addressed ‘Mataji’ by a sadhaka. She blurted out with acerbity, “Why did you call me ‘Mataji’ instead of calling my name?” I submit to you that we heard from religious beings during our childhood of this as right etiquette of address as Mataji, elder Mataji or younger sister when regarded as equal to us. We knew of this even from the illiterate as proper manner with opposite feeling to unacquainted woman.
In a similar case a sadhaka was called ‘servant’ by someone else, as I heard of it. I have to submit to you that it is a serious blunder to disregard the sadhaka as if he were servant. Manav-Sewa-Sangh is established with the vision to be an association of sadhakas, the spiritual aspirants. The sadhaka is the owner, the master here, whether visitor for one day or coming here for thousand days, whether working here already for years or joining work just today.
The sadhak means the owner of Manav-Sewa-Sangh simply because it is an association of sadhakas not of any individuals whatever. I heard that the above-mentioned sadhaka was deeply hurt by being called ‘servant’. The lady was pained by the address of ‘Mataji’ and this sadhaka by the appellation of ‘servant’. I was to point out to you the genesis of this agony. Is there any reason other than the vanity of the body?
