सेवा ही जीवन का सार सर्वस्व
अरे भाई, आज हमारे पास धन है, इसको अगर हम अपनी खुराक बनाएँगे, अपने लिए मानेगें तो इसके नाश होने पर हमें निर्धनता की पीड़ा सहनी पड़ेगी । यह बल हमारा अपने लिए नहीं है, यह तो निर्बलों की सेवा के लिए है । तो जिसके जीवन में सेवा का भाव उदय हो जाता है, उसे शारीरिक प्रवृति सेवा ही मालूम होती है । उसे रोटी खिलाना मालूम होता है, खाना नहीं मालूम होता । उसे पानी पिलाना मालूम होता है, पीना नहीं मालूम होता । इसमें फर्क है या नहीं ? तो सेवा एक ऐसा विलक्षण भाव है कि इससे हरेक प्रवृति सेवा हो जाती है ।
सेवा का अन्त त्याग में होता है और त्याग की पूर्णता बोध और प्रेम में होती है । इसलिए सुख की घडियाँ सेवा करने के लिए हैं और दुःख की घडियाँ दुःख के प्रभाव से सुख के प्रलोभन को नाश करने के लिए हैं । सुख की नाशक नहीं हैं, सुख के प्रलोभन की नाशक हैं । सुख का प्रलोभन कब रहता है ? जब हम सुख भोगते हैं । सेवा करनेवाले में सुख का प्रलोभन नहीं रहता है। और सुख का प्रलोभन नाश होने के बाद दुःख का स्वतः नाश हो जाता है । जिसको जीने की आशा नहीं रहती, उसको मरने का भय भी नहीं रहता । जो लाभ का सुख नहीं भोगता, वह हानि के भय से भयभीत नहीं होता ।

Service: The only quintessence of life

Look, brother, we will have to suffer an anguish of impoverishment in case we turn the wealth at our disposal into daily food regarding it for ourselves. This strength is not for our own shake; it is meant to be at the service of the weak. Once the disposition to serve wakes up, every physical undertaking is converted into service. Then feeding becomes palpable to him, not taking meal himself. He knows helping others drink water remaining unaware of quenching himself. Isn’t there a chasm of difference between two? Service is such an exceptional feeling as every undertaking gets transformed into service by it.
Service culminates in renunciation which attains its repletion of fullness in inward awareness and divine love. Therefore, spells of joy are meant for offering service and durations of suffering are intended to demolish the lure of joy by their influence. They dismantle only the lure of pleasure, not pleasure itself. When the temptation for pleasure does exist? Only so long as we enjoy ourselves. It does not obtain in those who offer service. And all suffering ends on its own, when the lure of joy is eradicated. Whosoever is free from the wishful hope to live is free also from the fear of death. He who does not luxuriate in the pleasure of gain is not afraid of the fear of loss.
